About Sam

Sam's musical background began at the age of 6 when he picked up his first violin. In time he would become an accomplished classical violinist playing in many large recitals. At the age of 12 Sam realized a newfound passion for bluegrass music and began studying under local fiddler Debbie Zanders. Zanders exposed Sam to dozens of new sounds, instruments, and techniques. At 15 Sam began playing the guitar, an instrument his uncle, Brendon Wright, had encouraged him to learn. Brendon, having played as a full time musician in Knoxville, Tennessee for a number of years and writing dozens of Americana originals, played a big role in developing Sam's unique style and tone. In addition to the guitar, Sam also sings with the Mandolin, a traditional Appalachian folk instrument. Sam played his first gig at 16 and has since grown his audience playing at popular spots including the Blue Marlin, Ugly Grouper, Satchels Pizza, Mila's on the Manatee, and the North Shore Cafe. In addition he has played many private parties and events.
